RAILWAY TRAFFIC
WELL SPREAD .OVER HOLIDAYS POPULARITY OF CENTRAL OTAGO According to railway officers, traffic over the holiday period has been fairly well spread from December 20 up to the present time, and the indications .are that the figures will be main’tained until the end of next week.
As a result of the spread of traffic, there has not been the congestion that has been evident in recent years, but on several days trains were filled to capacity, the busiest days probably being December 20 and 21. Christmas Eve, however, was not so busy as usual. Central Otago as a holiday resort is becoming increasingly popular each year, and traffic on this line compared more than favourably with that of recent years. Suburban trains have been well patronised over the holiday period without the congestion of previous years. The general experience is that the holiday crowds move about in a holiday spirit, overlooking minor inconveniences. In words, the holiday traveller is more philosophical than the average train traveller.
