January 3, 4 .. .. Greymouth T.C. January 4 .. .. Waikato T.C. January 11 .. .. Timaru T.C. January 18, 25 .. Forbury Park T.C. Jottings Glenwellyn paced a solid race to finish second in the Oamaru Trot, and the Dillon Hall four-year-old looks a good prospect for one of the minor meetings. Well Timed D. Townley drove a good race to win the Waikaura Trot with Swaledale. After getting the Jack Potts pacer into a good position running down the back, Townley nursed him in behind the leaders and timed his finishing swoop well. A Small Return Two well-backed runners in the Oamaru Trot. Highland Dale and Kahurangi. lost their chances at the start by tangling. Highland Dale was bracketed with Locknit and Colin Waters, and the backers of the bracket received a very small return for their outlay. Something in Hand Hydro Belle paced an even race all the way to win the Oamaru Trot, and appeared to have something in hand. She is a five-year-old black mare by Sandydale from Kurow Belle, and is trained by A. Henderson at Temuka. A Likely Sort With experience, Ikawai should train on to be a winner. She showed a fair turn of speed at Oamaru, and was pacing well in the middle stages of the Waikaura Trot. A three-year-old by U. Scott from Rowi, she is in P. Gallagher’s team at Washdyke Unlucky Captain Sandy was unlucky In the Waikaura Trot, as he lost a big stretch of ground at the start. Once he settled down he showed a nice turn of speed, and finished fourth. A four-year-old by Sandydale from Waikaura, he looks certain to develop into a good winner.
