CRITICISM AND REJOINDER
AMERICAN VIEW. OF DOMINION Extracts from an article by the American author and lecturer, Mr Sydney Greenbie, published in the widely-circulated Saturday Evening Post, and reprinted in yesterday’s Daily Times, will probably recall similar attempts on the part of the writer to dissect the social, political, and artistic life of the Dominion. Until last year Mr Greenbie had, been attached for some time to the American Legation in Wellington as a special assistant to the Minister, but his official capacity did not in any way deter him from expressing, with the greatest of freedom, his opinions about the Dominion and any other subject for which he could attract an audience. But, if Mr Greenbie’s latest comments are both candid and outspoken, they are matched in these respects by a rejoinder made yesterday by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, who, in that picturesque phraseology with which his name is often associated., has taken up the cudgels on behalf of the Dominion.
