WHEAT AND OATS

MARKETS REMAIN QUIET CLEARANCE OF POTATOES There has been an absence of deliveries of milling wheat during the week, and interest in the market has slackened off considerably. Practically all stocks are now in millers hands. Sufficient releases of fowl wheat are being made to meet local requirements and there is also a limited quantity available for shipment to North Island ports. Flour, Bran, etc. Flour: 200’s, £l3 15s 6d; 100’s, £l4 12s 6d; 50’s, £l4 17s 6d; 25’s, £ls 7s 6d. Pollard: £6 15s per ton of 20001 b. Bran: £5 5s per ton of 20001 b. Oatmeal: 2001 b sacks, £25 10s 6d per ton; 251 b loose, £27 0s 6d, packed in sacks of eight, £27 10s 6d. Seed Oats Wanted Stocks of white oats are in small compass in the stores, and there are barely sufficient to meet present seed requirements. A few lines of stack oats are on offer, but these are not easy to place. Good quality Duns are readily saleable, but here again stocks are light. There is no lack of supplies of chaff and prices remain unchanged. Seed Potatoes in Over-supply The flood conditions in South Canterbury have caused an easing off in the supplies of potatoes from that quarter, and this has caused a clearance of potatoes from the local stores. Supplies of seed potatoes are still in excess of requirements and inferior lines of seed ere very difficult to place. Sound Position in Seeds The market for Montgomery red clover and cowgtass continues firm, set prices are unchanged There is also a ready market for good quality lines of white clover, crested dogstail, and Chesneys fescue, but prices are perhaps a shade easier than those ruling at the peak of the demand last month. The demand for perennial and Italian ryegrass is usually confined to orders from local merchants. The germination t. j sts of most of the ryegrass are not sufficiently high to attract interest of overseas buyers/ Cocksfoot, which has been neglected by buyers, both local and overseas, throughout me year continues quiet.
