GENERAL ELECTION

LABOUR CANDIDATES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. The selection of the following candidates is announced by the National Executive of the New Zealand Labour Party:— Wellington Central: Mr C. H. Chapman, M.P. Wairarapa: Mr G. A. Hansen. Franklin: Mr A. D. J. Gunn. Northern Maori: Mr T. P. Paikea, M.P. Western Maori: Mr M. Ratana, M.P. Eastern Maori: Mr T. Oman a, M.P. Southern Maori: Mr E. T. Tirikatene. M.P. Mr Hansen, who unsuccessfully contested the Pahiatua seat in 1943 and 1938, has been a farmer in the Wairarapa throughout his life. He is 48 years old. Mr Gunn, who is 36, is a member of the executive of the Auckland Returned Services’ Association, and is a director of a transport company. He served four and a-half years with the Second N.Z.E.F.
