FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

SOCIAL COMMITTEE The Combined U.F.S. Social Committee held its first annual meeting on Friday in the A.O.F. Office. There was a fair representation of societies present, Bro. D. D. Thompson presiding. The report showed a successful year’s work, and thanks were extended to the conveners, sub-conveners, and secretaries of picnic, dance, and indoor activities, and to Bro. Brown for his work on the Publicity Committee. The balance sheet for the year was presented and showed' that all sub-committees were now paying their way. The chairman extended thanks to all members who had worked so well during the past year and expressed the hope that their efforts had not been in vain He also asked delegates to make known amongst their own societies the good work that has been done. The election of officers for the ensuing year re-, suited as follows: Chairman, Bro. D. D Thompson; secretary, Sis. F. M. Anthony: treasurer, Bro. J. K. Macfie; and three members from each society. The trustees were re-elected. The election of conveners and sub-conveners of the various committees for the year resulted as follows: Dance Committee convened, Bro. W. O. Lewis; sub-convener, Sis. D. H. Reddell. Indoor Activities: Convener, Bro. J. T. Wilson; sub-convener, Bro. J. Weir, jun. Picnic Committee: Convener. Bro. D. H. Ingles; sub-convener, Bro. J. H. Holland. Bro. J. T. Wilson was again appointed to collect the reports for publication. FORESTERS The quarterly meeting of Court Pride of the Leith was held last Wednesday, when there was a good attendance of members, under the charge of C.R. Bro. A. R. Wright Several members made reference to the splendid welcome home the court held recently, and invitations te visit Courts Little John, King Edward’s Pride, and Woodland's Pride were accepted A grant was made to the Combined Friendly Societies’ Dance Committee. The election of officers resulted as follows: C.R., Bro. S. G. Gaudin; S.C.R., Bro. A. S Jones; C.T., Bro. ,A. W. Jones; secretary, Bro. J. K. Macfie; S.W.. Bro J. H. Cummings; J.W., Bro. C. E. F. Gaudin; 5.8., Bro. E. W. R, Hellyer; J. Bro. M. J. Dillon; assistant secretary, Bro. F. R. Harraway. The competition for the lower offices was very keen. The following delegates were appointed: Bros H. W. Cockburn, J. H. Cummings, W. Dillon, S. T. D. Gaudin, S. G. Gaudin, C K. Heaton, and A. R. Wright. The newlyelected officers were installed by the D.T., Bro. J. Hope; D. 8., Bro. J. H. Holland; assisted by P.6.C.R. Bro. C. C. Robertson. The C.R. welcomed the district officers and the toast was responded to by the D.T. and D.B. The general efficiency shield, which was won recently by the court, was presented by P.C.R. Bro. W. Dillon to the C.R., Bro. Wright, and in doing so. the officers 'were complimented on their fine work. The Foresters' Tribute to the Fallen was ably rendered by P.D.C.R. Bro. C. C. Robertson, and was honoured in silence. A welcome was extended to returned service members, who thanked the court for assisting them while on active service. The fortnightly meeting of Court Bruce, A.0.F., held in the Masonic Hall, Milton, was presided over by C.R. Bro. W. A. Dickson, theie being a fair muster of members The woodwards' reports were received and sick pay claims passed. A motion of sympathy was passed with Bro. McMurtrie in the death of his wife. Invitations were accepted from local sister societies and from Courts Enterprise and Little John, Dunedin. Nominations for the various offices were taken. It was decided to invite Court Molyneux to the next meeting, when members of the D.E. would be present. Reports were received on the visit to Court Star of Heriot to the welcome home to returned brothers and the unveiling of memorial tablets. One new member was proposed. Court Woodlands Pride had a large attendance of members on the last meeting night for the election and installation of officers The C.R. welcomed P.B Bro Holland, who later installed the following officers:—C.R., Sis. H. Larsen; 1.P.C.R., Sis. D. H Riddell; S.C.R., Sis. R, Barnes; treasurer, Sis. L. Shepherd; secretary, Sis. R. Patton; S.W.. Sis. M. Dillon; J.W., Sis. J. Morris; 5.8., Sis. P. Gaudin; J. 8., Sis. Clark; and minute secretary, Sis. R. Grey. The two delegates to the next district meeting will be Sis. I. Deer and Sis. H. Mclnnes. Two new members were initiated and two more proposed. A vote of thanks was recorded to Sis. R. Miller for her work in the I.P.C.R chair, and to Sis. E. Simpson, who assisted Bro. Holland with the installation of officers. Supper terminated an interesting meeting. Court St. Andrew’s quarterly meeting was attended by a good number of members The woodwards reported the sick members on the funds. After routine business, two nominations were accepted. The following were elected into office for the next term:—C.R., Sis. G. Wilson; S.C.R., Bro. R. Vann; treasurer, Bro. W. K. Skene; secretary, Bro. P. Vann; senior woodward, Bro. F. G. Brixton: junior woodward, Bro. R. Vincent; senior’beadle, Bro. J. Clark; junior beadle, Bro. J W. Lindsay; minute secretary, Sis. R. Wilson; M.C., Bro. F. G. Brixton; assistant M.C.. Bro. R. Vann; auditors, Sis M. E. Coomer and Bro. R. Vincent; delegates to the district meeting, Bro. P. Vann. Sis. R Wilson was appointed trustee, and Bro D. \. Swann and 11 members a management and social committee The D.C R., Bro. D. D. Thompson, and district secretary, Bro. J. K. Macfie, installed the new officers and wished them a successful term.
