TRANSPORT ARRANGED
WIVES OF AMERICAN SOLDIERS MAJOR TASK AHEAD (Rec. 0.40 a-m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 13. Provision is being made to bring overseas wives and children of American servicemen to the United States in large numbers as soon as possible in de-commissioned hospital ships. This encouraging news was announced by the Army Transportation Corps. The corps faces the job with trepidation, pointing out that the wives are scattered among numerous nations, and the army is inexperienced in transporting babies and expectant mothers. Furthermore, nobody seems to know now many brid&s are overseas. For example, the army estimates that there are about 5000 in New Zealand and Australia, whereas the English-speak-ing Union estimated that there were between 20,000 and 30,000. The New York Herald-Tribune reports that the transport of European brides may begin early in Feoruary but does not mention the date fo: those from the Pacific regions.
