PLAYING AREAS
DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL A deputation comprising Messrs W.M. Uttley, R. Stagg, and T. It. Beatty waited on the Borough Council last night to voice the views of the Progress League concerning playing areas. Mr Uttley explained the project for the development and expansion of Takaro Park, the completion of King George's Park, and the development of Reserve C, and he pointed out that it was not expected that the cost should be paid out of rates. If any subsidies such as had been announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry, came to Oamaru, he said, they should go to the council, which could 1 spend the money for the benefit of the whole community and not for individual sports clubs. ; v "" , . , Mr Stagg spoke of the need far a playing area in the north end of the town, and Mr Beatty gave details of the Takaro P Cr k s looney, Tail, and Bain supported the deputation’s representations, but Cr Stubbs contended that Takaro Park should remain as a park for the People. He added that he would be sorry to see it made into a large playing field. The Mayor. Mr Kirkness, assured the deputation that full consnieration would be given to its representations, and said that there would have to be a comtiined effort by the people to bring about the project they had in mind. ; -v, ,v.
