MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the Vincent Hospital Board, held at Clyde, was attended by Messrs S. A. Stephens (in the chair), W. Bringans, J. Swann. C. J. Spain, R, E. F. Butcher, G. Wishart, W. D. Naylor, E. J. Naylor. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr E. J. Naylor, the new member representing the Vincent County in place of the late Mr John McKnight. The Director-general of Health (Dr M. H. Watt) wrote aproving in principle the board’s application for permission to use the isolation building at tile Dunstan Hospital temporarily for the _ accommodation of maternity patients pending the building of a new maternity ward proposed by the board. —It was decided that a committee of the board, with Dr Brown, should discuss with the Health Department’s inspector of maternity hospitals the temporary arrangements which would require to be made. The Hospital Beards’ Association wrote advising that agreement had been reached in connection with the new domestic staff award, and supplied details of increases in the rates of pay. The existing hours of work clause had been retained. The sanction of the Court of Arbitration had yet to be obtained before the new award became operative.—The Hospital Boards’ Association also wrote regarding certain increases recommended by its executive in the Classified Scale of salaries for nurses, and the secretary was instructed to submit details of recommendations applying to the board’s staff for consideration at next meeting. Agreement with Otago Board The Otago Hospital Eoard forwarded notification of six Vincent patients admitted to the Dunedin Hospital during the past month, and advised that four Vincent cases had been discharged during the month. The Otago Board also forwarded a statement for the year ended March 31 last in connection with the reciprocal agreement between the two boards, which showed that the net amount due to the Otago Board for the past year was £353 0s Id, of which £350 had been paid in monthly instalments by the Vincent Board under the agreement, leaving £3 0s Id owing.—A renewal of the agreement was approved for the current year on the same terms as last year, viz., an annual payment by the Vincent Board of £350, with an adjustment at the end of the year based on the cost per occupied bed. The medical superintendent of the Walpiata Sanatorium wrote recommending two Vincent patients for admission to the sanatorium. One of these had since been admitted, and 10 Vincent patients were now under treatment in that institution. The following hospital statistics for the month of August were submitted:—Dunstan Hospital: Admitted 24, discharged 28. 1 death, 21 remaining in hospital at the end of the month. Out-patients treated 32, out-patients X-rayed 10. Cromwell Hospital: Admitted 49, discharged 48, 1 death, 25 remaining in hospital at the end of the month District Nurse Moore, Tarras, reported having attended nine patients during August. The application for the services nf a district nurse for the southern por-. tion of the board's district was held over pending a reply from the medical officer of health. Proposed Extensions The board again discussed the plans and estimates submitted by the architect in connection with proposals for new general and maternity wards with extensions to the staff buildings at the Dunstan Hospital, and an extens on to the general ward and extra staff accommodation at the Cromwell Hospital.—lt was decided that the proposals be held over for further consideration.

The treasurer reported a credit of £650 3s 6d on the bank current account at the date of the meeting. Accounts and salaries totalling £l2Bl 11s 6d were passed for payment.
