BURNING OF EFFIGY

The City Fire Brigade was forced to take a hand during the burning of an effigy of Admiral Togo in Princes street yesterday afternoon. For the cremation cermony the figure was placed on a “no parking” sign, and it * blazed so vigorously that the sign itself was soon enveloped in flames. As all efforts to extinguish it, including the application of the contents of several bottles, were of no avail, tha brigade was called to finish the task. The sign was badly damaged.
