MIGHTY BLOWS

SUPER-FORTRESS FLEET FURTHER RAIDS ON JAPAN GREAT WEIGHT -OF BOMBS (Rec. li p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 26. The Twentieth Air Force announced that Super-Fortresses in very great strength attacked military and industrial targets at Nagoya, Osaka, Akashi, and Gifu shortly after daylight to-day. Nearly 500 Super-Fortresses, escorted by Mustangs based on Iwo Jima, dropped over 3000 tons of bombs on 10 Japanese aircraft, ordnance and ammunition targets in the largest demolition pinpoint mission of the Pacific war, said the Guam correspondent of the Associated Press. Each factory had been damaged before by incendiary or high explosive, but none had been completely knocked out. The bombing was made visually over most of the targets, but some were obscured by clouds. It was the tenth major assault against Japan this month by the Twenty-first Bomber Command, bringing the bomb total to 26,500 tong, exceeding the May record of 24,650 tons. Over 4000 SuperFortresses have been used against Japan this month.
