LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE
SHEEP PRICES FIRMER (PA) INVERCARGILL, June 26. A small yarding of 530 fat sheep was forward at the Lorneville stock sale today, compared with 1003 last week. The bulk of the yarding was composed of ewes, which were mostly good-quality sorts. The market for both ewes and wethers was firmer by about 5s a head, compared with the prices ruling last week. Fair - quality medium - weight wethers realised from 45s to 475, lightweight sorts from 41s to 435, and small and unfinished from 35s to 375. Heavy butchers’ ewes made from 30s to ..335, medium sorts from 27s to 295, and lightweight freezing sorts from 16s to 18s 6d There was a medium-sized yarding of 207 fat lambs, which mostly consisted of poor-quality and unfinished sorts. There was a good demand, and prices were in excess of the export schedule rates. Only a few better-qUality sorts were offered, and these realised from 28s to 30s. The majority of the poorer sorts made from 22s 6d to 255. An entry cf 110 fat cattle was penned, compared with 86 last week. The quality of the yarding was generally better than it was at the previous sale, and values showed little or r.o change compared with last week's prices. Good-quality bullocks realised from £l6 10s to £lB, medium-weights from £l4 to £ls ss, and light-weights from £lO 10s to £ll 10s. Heavy-weight cows made from £ll to £ll 15s, medium-weights from £9 to £lO ss, and unfinished from £6 10s to £7 10s. Good - quality medium - weight heifers brought from £l2 5s to £l3 ss, handyweights from £lO 15s to £ll 10s, lightweights from £9 to £9 15s, and smaller sorts from £7 5s to £8 ss.
