MORE COAL NEXT YEAR

Sir,—lt is not encouraging to have Councillor Connolly quoted at the City Council meeting as declaring that there will be plenty of coal next year He is surely getting ih early with his little bit of good cheer, but there will be an election In Dunedin North next month, and this explains his hurry, so we will let hint get away with it. But all the same it does cut across the grain of Mr Peter Neilson’s statement to a meeting of Dunedin housewives that he thought it a wonder -the miners did not strike more often. No doubt they would if they could, and also if they took the tip from him that they would have his whole-hearted supoort. These good news pills as from Councillor Connolly will, no doubt, rain on us fast and furious next month, but it is to be hoped Dunedin North will not fall for them. The writing is on the wall for Labour promises, as was proved in Hamilton lately, where the “ lassie came home,’’ and rolled out their Barrel!.—l am, etc., O Promise Me.
