CIVIL MOBILISATION

APPLIED IN BELGIUM ... (Rec. 7 p.m.) BRUSSELS, May 18. It is officially announced that the Government is applying civil mobilisation in all sectors of national activity for three years, in which no strikes will be tolerated. The mobilisation affects both employers and employees. The latter may transfer from one enterprise to another, provided they remain in the same sector. The order does not curtail the rights of trade unions. The announcement , adds that employees of the public services will receive the same pay as workers in private enterprises. The Government is endeavouring to equalise as soon as possible the indices of official prices and wages. A strike in the Belgian' coalfields has entailed the loss 0f‘250,000 tons of coal since May 1.
