DISTRESS IN EUROPE
EIRE TO SEND RELIEF SUPPLIES LONDON, May 18. Mr de Valera announced in the Dail that the Eire Government would make available through the Red Cross a quantity of food and other goods for the relief of distress in Europe if transport could be secured. The food will comprise 20,000 cattle, valued at £3,000,000, 800 tons of bacon, 1000 tons of butter, 250 tons of cheese, 10,000,0001 b of tinned meats, 10,000 tons of sugar, 500 tons of dried milk, 250 tons of condensed milk, and 55 tons of baby food. Other goods include 100,000 blankets, 100,0001 b of knitted garments, 20,000 dozen pairs of socks, 500 cooking stoves and field kitchens. These gifts will not interfere with exports to Britain, but home rations of bacon and dried and condensed milk and sugar will be reduced.
