“WAS IT IN VAIN?”

Sir, —Along with many others, I am asking myself the question, ” What would our men who have been killed say, if they went to England just now and saw the courtesy and unnecessary luxury that is being handed out to these German war criminals?" This was supposed to be a war to end all wars —we heard that last time —and yet we are allowing these horrible monsters of iniquity to have every consideration at the hands of the Allies. Is it not time that the world at large rose up in rebellion and demanded the death of every one of these generals and of the leaders of Nazi Germany? Is it not time that New Zealand demanded that her Government send a definite statement to the Home Government to that effect? We have paid the price for this war. My husband, along with many other young men. has paid the supreme price, and I am left to bring up his child. If we allow these men to go unpunished, the orphans of this war will be the victims of another war in their lifetime, and ms.ybe against the same enemy. We do not need high courts to try them and see if they are guilty. Belsen concentration camp alone proves that. Every pitifully starved child in Europe, every wrecked life, rises up and demands that justice should be done. Death is too good for them—torture is more to the point. New Zealanders should wake up. Let us demand that the aims of justice be served, and our brothers’ blood not cry to us out of the ground. Let not our men have died in vain.—l am, etc.. War Widow. Dunedin, May 10.
