Mr P. G. Connolly. M.P., l<ft yesterday morning for Wellington. The appointment of Mr Ernest MacDonald as a member of the Waitaki Licensing Committee is notified in the New Zealand Gazette. Advice has been received that Sergeant Pilot lan Bright, son of Mr and Mrs G. S Bright, of Dunedin, who is serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. in England, has been promoted to the rank of warrant officer. He was formerly a cadet member of the reporting staff of the Otago Daily Times. At the meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union last night Mr E. S. Wilson was reappointed secretary. He. lias occupied the position for the past 41 years.

Messrs D. M. Spedding and D. C. Jolly were appointed bv tile Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union last night as its delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union to be held in Wellington next month. Mr A. McDonald was appointed resident delegate. At the annual meeting of the Otago Boxing Associafion last night Mr S. Brown and Mr D. M. Paterson were elected life members. Both are vicepresidents and complimentary reference was made bv the president, Mr Rf. S. Glendining, to their services to the association over a long period. Mr and Mrs W. McCaig, of 33 Royal terrace, have received private advice that their eldest son. Lieutenant-colonel Richard McCaig, Royal Artillery, has been awarded the Military Cross for services in the Burma campaign; and that their second son. John, has now received his commission in the New Zealand Artillery after four years’ service overseas.

Passengers who left for the north by the airliner yesterday were Father Bartlett, for Christchurch; Mr V. Robb, Mr J Bissett, Dr C. E. Hercus, Mrs R. Henderson Sister M. Robb, and Mr S. S. Hall, for Wellington; Mr A. Grave, Mrs A. M Donaldson, and Mrs M. Zimmerman, for Auckland. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Mr and Miss Lane and Mr Rice, from Auckland; Mr F. Dunning, from Wellington; Mrs F. Brown, from Palmerston North; Mrs C. Berrv, from Blenheim; Mr A. J. Mabeley and Mr J. McLennan, from Christchurch. Passengers who left for Invercargill were Mr A. J, Maberley, Mr J Grant, Mr G. Ramsay, Miss N. Cowie, Mrs S. MacDonald, Mr D. M. Mallock Mr J. M. Burt and Miss M. Gubb.
