FINAL DAY’S PLAY FINE BATTING BY J. KINDER A fine batting performance on Saturday by J. Kinder, who scored 83 runs in 35'minutes, enabled Town A to secure an outright win of five points against Waitaki A. Town B defeated St. Kevins A, Waitaki B beat Waitaki D, Waitaki C beat St. Kevin's B in the last match of the season. Ground conditions were much improved. ' In the first day’s play Waitaki A made 204 runs, and Town A had lost three wickets for 41. Continuing its innings, Town compiled 167, Kinder making 49. Kelk 25, and Mclvor and Thomas 24 each. P. Harris in four overs took three wickets for 12 runs, and McDiarmid bowled well for nine overs to take two for 20. In its second innings Waitaki was all out for 87 runs, due mainly to good bowling by Mclvor, who obtained plenty of turn from the wicket. McDiarmid made 30 not out and Frampton 20. Mclvor took three for 42, Gillies three for 12, and Currie two for 21. The Town fielding showed a great improvement on that of the previous Saturday, and the catch at square-leg by Gillies to dismiss Smith was a brilliant effort. Currie also brought off a fine catch to dismiss Harris. Town was left with an hour and 10 minutes to obtain 125 runs. Kinder again battled exceptionally well, his 83 runs including four 6's and eight other boundaries. Gunn made 23 and Kelk 19 not out, and at 5.50 p.m. Town had passed Waitaki’s total by nine runs for the loss of four wickets. In one-day matches Town B beat St. Kevin’s A by 67 runs on the first innings. Town made 110 (Sumpter 58, Henderson 12). Ryan took five wickets for 25 runs. St. Kevin’s made 43 (McDonald 31). May took seven wickets for 11, Sumpter three for 23. St. Kevin’s In its second innings declared at 100 for the loss of six wickets (Wills 26 not out, McDonald 23. McCaw 17). Waitaki’s second innings produced 127 (Waldron 38, Gawn 34, and McDiarmid and Sumpter 15 each). O'Reilly took foui for 27 and McHugh three for 29. In its seqond innings St. Kevin’s was all out for 53 (O’Connell 21, O’Neill 13). Waldron took four for nine and Steel three for eight. Waitaki B beat Waitaki D by 105 runs. Waitaki D made 64 (Steenson 23, Ross 16 not out). Andrews took three for 15. Lindsay two for two, and Reid two for eight. Waitaki B made 169 (Borrows 36, Simpson 31 retired, Lindsay 26). Barlow took four for 28 and Brownlee two for 29.
