CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS PHCENIX WINS FOURS After having defeated the Phoenix representatives by a point in the second round, the Awamoa four lost both lives to Phcenix on Saturday in the concluding games of the North Otago Centre's Champion cf Champions Fours. J. D. Crisp, C. Roller, H. R. Domigan, and J. D. Forbes (Phoenix) won the title, with L. H, Tempero, J. Aitchison, D. Ferguson, and W. Rusbatch (Awamoa) the runners-up. The games were played at Meadowbank, the first being won 27—18 and the final 22—18. Awamoa started off well, scoring a 7 on the eighth end, to lead 12—7, but in the next ends Phoenix notched 2,1, 4,1, 1,2, 3,3, to lead 24—12 at the sixteenth. Three each way on the next two ends did not alter the margin, and Awamoa scored a 1 and a 2 for the game to finish at the twentieth 27 —18 in favour of Phoenix.

In the final Awamoa again started well, being s—o at"the fourth and 10—3 at the ninth, but at this point Phcenix again took charge and won seven out of the next eight ends, losing a 4 and scoring a 5,3, 2,2, 2,2, and 1, to lead 20—14 at the seventeenlh. Awamoa won three of the remaining ends, the final score being; Phoenix 22, Awamoa 18.

L. H. Tempero, the Awamoa veteran, lead very consistently, but as a team the Phoenix four outplayed their opponents, though occasionally with the head against him Rusbatch was unlucky in not scoring from good shots. Phoenix Fours

Excellent entries were again received for the Phcenix Club’s annual fours tournament on Saturday. Unfortunately darkness came on rapidly, and a tie was reached in the final, which necessitated an extra end. and as this head was “ burnt ” in the dark the finalists shared the trophy. The finalists were J. Hinton, W. Drennan, F. Jones, and R. Plinton, and R. Evans, M. Wisnesky, D. R. Corson, and D. H. Thomson, both of Phcenix. The club president (Mr J. M. Hendy) contributed £5 5s towards the trophy. Results:—

Section A.—E. W. Grenfell, 2 wins, 2 losses; J. Campbell, 4 losses; D. H. Thomson, 3 wins, 1 loss; V. E. Doran, 1 win, 3 losses; P, Hunter, 3 wins, 1 loss; E. F. Armstrong, 2 wins, 2 losses; R. Hinton, 3 wins, 1 loss; G. Wisnesky, 2 wins, 2 losses; J. T. Adams. 4 wins; W. M. Richardson, 4 losses.

Section B.—A. C. Forrest, 3 wins, 1 loss; C. Hood, 2 wins, 2 losses; E. D. Watts, 1 win, 3 losses; T. Kennedy, 1 win, 3 losses; H. C. Jeffery, 2 wins, 2 losses; R. Keen, 3 wins, 1 loss; Joe Reid, 3 wins, 1 loss; McAdie, 4 losses; G. W. Atkinson, 3 wins, 1 loss; Atholl Robertson, 2 wins, 2 losses.

Qualified.—Adams, 4 wins; Hunter, Reid, Hinton, Atkinson, Fcrrest, Thomson, Keen, 3 wins. Post-section Play—Hunter 8 beat Adams 4; Hinton 10 beat Reid 5; Atkinson 9 beat Forrest 5; Thomson 7 beat Keen 6. Semi-finals.—Hinton 7 beat Hunter 5; Thomson 8 beat Atkinson 7. Final.—Hinton and Thomson, 7—all.
