SAN FRANCISCO MEETING
BRITISH DELEGATION LONDON, Mar. 22. Mr Churchill, in the House of Commons announced that the British delegation to the San Francisco conference would comprise the Foreign Secretary, Mr Anthony Eden, the Lord President of the Council, Mr C. R- Attlee Viscount Cranborne, and Viscount Halifax, and the following junior Ministers:— Mr G Tomlinson, Miss Ellen Wilkinson Miss Florence Horsburgh, Mr W. Mabane, and Mr M. Dingle Foot. Mr Eden would lead the delegation. Asked why Mr Attlee should not be the leader, Mr Churchill said the Foreign Secretary, not the Lord President of the Council, would in normal practice lead such a delegation. The title of Deputy Prime Minister was a courtesy title, which at present was unconstitutional. Mr Attlee entirely agreed with the arrangements, because he was not a self-seeking man, and always tried to play the game and do the best he could. The Press Association’s diplomatic correspondent says April 4 has been fixed as the provisional date for the opening of the Imperial Conference m London, which will be attended by the dominions’ delegates to the San Francisco conference. Mr Eden will pro* 3 ' ably preside. The talks are expected to last at least a week.
