CITY POLICE COURT

Friday, March 23 (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) Remanded in Custody * Three young men—Arthur George Woods, aged 17; Alexander William Mills, aged 17; and Peter Michael Tucker, aged 21—were remanded in custody until Monday to allow of further information concerning them to be gathered. All were charged with deserting overseas vessels at Wellington.—Senior Sergeant A. Johnston prosecuted, and said that all the accused had reported at the Police Station on arrival in Dunedin. They were all decent types, and their conduct ashore had been exemplary. Their ship had left New Zealand, and at the moment there was no other suitable vessel in which they could be placed. —The magistrate, after warning the accused that desertion in war-time wgs a very serious matter, remanded all three in custody until Monday.
