SURF LIFE SAVING

With the reinstatement of the men’s events in the form of war-time championships, a full programme of women’s, senior and junior events will be decided at the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships which will be held at St. Clair beach on Saturday and Sunday. The official opening ceremony will be performed by the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The competitions will commence in the morning and continue throughout the day, and also on Sunday. Rescue and alarm events, surfmari’s championships and individual surf races will be contested by the members of 22 teams, and the lighter side will be provided by canoe races and other beach novelties. Music will be provided each afternoon by the Burns Pipe Band.
