HOLIDAY RACING

TROTTING AT OAMARU HANNON MEMORIAL HANDICAP • i ■' INTEGRITY’S BRILUANT WIN The Oamaru Trotting Club's spring meeting, which was held yesterday, was highly successful. from a racing point of view, although the travel restrictions and the uncertain' weather in the morning restricted the attendance to some extent. There were intermittent showers early in the day, but the track was not seriously affected and' some excellent times were recorded. A gold mounted whip, presented by Miss K. Henderson, was handed to G. McKendry, driver of Blue Horizon, the winner of the Landon Handicap, by the president of the club, Mr R. A. McDowell, fee totalisator handled the sum of £33,096, compared with £38,403 last year, a decrease of £5307. Hannon Memorial The Hannon Memorial Handicap, which la always regarded as an excellent trial for the New Zealand Trotting Cup, attracted a field of 13 well-performed pacers, and it provided the most thrilling finish of the day. The win favourite,, Integrity, lost about 48 yards at the start, but, patiently handled by D. C. Watts, he was in a handy position turning for home and just lasted long enough to score by the narrowest of margins from Bronze Eagle who was not well placed in the middle of the field for most of the journey, and had he got clear earlier might have won. His bracketed mate, Pacing Power, just failed to reach Clockwork, who was always one of the leaders. Lightning Lady. Hardy Oak (who was prominent for more than half the journey), and Horsepower, were the next to finish. All-the-way Win The pronounced favourite, Quarter- ' master, scored an all-the-way win in the Introductory Handicap. He was the first out and soon established a lead of 10 lengths from Benghazi, Buccleugh and Betty Maxegin. Kerwood Bingen made up a lot of ground in the back, but there was no alteration in the leading positions. and Quartermaster went on to win comfortably by two, lengths, from Benghazi, with Yahoo a similar distance away. . Trotter Beats Pacers Chuckles led for over half the journey in the Landon Handicap, Sir Gaillard, Bonny Axworth, Bromley Boy, Worthy Prince always being handy. With half a nulto go. the straightout trotter Blue Horizon made a forward move and headed Loyal Nurse in the straight to wip by a length and a-half, Loyal Nurse and Sir Gaillaid finishing almost together. Worthy Prince and Bromley Boy followed m dose order The backers of the favourite. Knapdale Lass, did not receive a run for their money as she broke her headgear at the start and fell. Neither the horse nor the driver, H. J. Smith, was injured. Attractive Win The Trial Handicap was run jn a hea V-V shower. Apple Sauce and Janet Hall weic left at the start, and once the field settled down Radiant Scott. Nola Wrack, and Penin the lead The winner Barometer Chimes, was in therearofthe field with five furlongs to b n ut 0 be t “ms not in a fast run and was soon on terms with the third horse, Nola Wr . acl s- ht Th hut was a keen tussle m the straight but Barometer Chimes appeared to have somethlng in hand over the last furlong and he won attractively by a if ng f. b _ f . r °m Plunder Bar, who was just in front of Pencarrow at the post, with Jeeves next.

Happy Man's Good Win The small field in the President's Handican staged an Interesting contest Happy Man was slow to find his feet and Im perial Lady was rushed to telfront ama soon opened up a gap of,; eight lengths from Burnham, .Turco. and. Labour Day. At the mile post, Imperial.vLady was still six lengths in front of Burnham and Turc , Happy Man being fifth. . In the dock stretch the last time Burnham was clear of Imperial Lady, but turning into the straight Happy Man was showing theway to Turco. where Labour Day and Warfield put in their claims;. Happy Man held his advantage to beat Labour Day by a with Warfield three lengths backhand Turco in fourth place.' „ .The Redcastle; Handicap Max Baer the best supported horse in Handicap, led for- about a mile and a-quarter. but failed to see out the full-journey. Max Baers J 1 S<?attendants were Come Away and Sir Gau lard, but the leader was being hard driven with three furlongs to go. and when the straight entrance was reached Vimy Ridge forged to the front from Bromley Boy and Loyal Nurse, with Sunny Glen putting ?n a fast run. Vimy RWge won from Bromlev Boy. Loyal Nurse, and Sunny Glen. Both Loyal Nurse and Sunny Glen were unlucky, the latter,. In particular, having a bad passage. Comfortable Win

Kerwood Bingen P«oted the ® e “ ** most of the way in the Waitakl Hand! cap. but Yahoo was always handy, and when the straight was reached for the last time he had too much in hand for jimmy Wharton, winning comfortably. The third horse. Sea Gem. was well back. Another Good Finish

Labour Day, Lady Dawn, and Turco fought out a good finish in the Dash Handicap which brought the meeting to a close Labour Day winning narrowly on the post. The well-backed Catalpa failed to go away, and Festivity was also left? but got ‘ to the front enter; irig the straight the last time. The etior was however, too much for her.. . The followjng are the detailed results.
