OBITUARY
COLONEL DENEYS REITZ i LONDON, Oct. 19. The death has occurred of Colonel Deneys Reitz, aged 62. .
Colonel Reitz, who was born in Bloemfontein, fought against the British in the Boer War and became a commando leader while still in his teens.
He served in France in the, Great War, and was several times wounded.. Since 1933 he had been a prominent figure in South African politics, being a staunch supporter and comrade in arms of General Smuts. He held the Ministerial portfolios of Lands, Agriculture, and Forests, Mines and Native Affairs at various times, and last year was appointed High Commissioner in Great Britain for the Union of South Africa, a post he held at the time of his death. Colonel Reitz was the 'author of two notable books, “ Commando ” (his autobiography) and “ Trekking On.” DR T. H. A. CHAPLIN LONDON, Oct. 19. The death has occurred of Dr T. H. A. Chaplin, at the age of 80. Dr Chaplin, who was an authority on chest diseases, was consulting physician at the London Chest Hospital. He was for a long period before that medical inspector of the P. and 0., British, India, and New Zealand Shipping Companies. He published many medical works, including treatises on lung troubles.
