CAPTURE OF TIDDIM

ENEMY DEFENCES COLLAPSE RUGBY, Oct. 19. Reporting on the capture of Tiddim, South-east Asia Headquarters states: “The Japanese defences covering the northern approaches collapsed under a heavy air attack, and troops of the Fifth Indian Division pushed in from two directions. Our forces are in intact with the enemy south of Tiddim. A strong'force of aircraft on Wednesday attacked airfields in the Rangoon area. Other Allied aircraft attacked gun positions and stores in the Tiddim and Kalemyo areas and southwest of Kwanzon. Two Allied aircraft are missing.” The capture of Tiddim is a notable milestone in the Fourteenth Army s progress.
