MEN IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA

QUESTION OF HARDSHIP RUGBY, Oct. 19. The Minister of Labour, Mr E. Bevin, answering a question in the House, or Commons: “What account is being taken in the demobilisation plan of the special hardships incurred by mell serving in the South-east Asia Command? ” stated it was not practicable to differentiate between the services rendered in different theatres of war. Any differentiation was bound to result in indefensible anomalies. Mr Bevin added that the Governments proposals for release from the forces after the defeat of Germany, therefore, were based on a combination of age and length of service, irrespective of where the service was performed.
