CONDITIONS FOR ANGLING According to reports which have been received by the Otago Acclimatisation Society, fishing resorts are expected to provide fair sport at the week-end. The Pomahaka River is falling, but it is slightly discoloured. The indications are that the weather will be fine, with a slight prevailing wind. The Shag River is m good order, and it is expected that conditions at the week-end will be favourWaipori River has been carrying excessive snow water, but by now this should have disappeared, and the river should be in good order for fishing at the week-end. The Catlms branch rivers are carrying a fair body of water, but they are clear and generally are reported to be in good order. COMPETITION ON WAIPAHI The Waipahi Anglers’ Club recently held a Bare Fly Competition on Waipahi River. Eleven competitors took nart The prize-winners were: E. Speden, 20 fish (201 b floz) 1; T. Black, 19 fish (161 b 13oz), 2. Both anglers were on a 15 per cent, handicap. The prize for the heaviest fish went to A. Philpot, who secured a trout weighing 41b 9Joz. . The following will represent the Waipahi Club in the H. G Williams Shield competition on the Pomahaka, on November 5: —No. 1 team—J. Sparks (captain), A. Murray and A. Philpot; No 2 team—T. Black (captain), P. Abernethy, and J. Beccard.
