FARMERS’ UNION
BRANCH FORMED AT LOWER WAITAKI Mr H. Dennison was voted to the chair at a meeting at Hilderthorpe which was convened by the North Otago Farmers' Union. Addresses were given by the following members of the executive: —Mr M. W. Austin, “ The Work of the Dominion ExecutiveMr W. T. Hamilton, “ Pig Council Mr W. Doig, “ Meat Board Mr J. W. Nicolls, “Farm Costing"; Mr J. Kingan (president), "Transport”; and Mr A. C. Hurst (Vice-president), "Control of Footrot and an Appeal to Farmers for Further Liming." The subjects were of great interest to the farmers present, and the addresses were greatly appreciated. The meeting decided to form a branch of the Farmers' Union to include the districts of Waitaki, Hilderthorpe, Papakaio, and Pukeuri, to hold at least four meetings a year. The following officers were elected:—President Mr H. Dennison; secretary, Mr C. R. Hay. Mr Hurst' suggested that meetings be held in the various centres to stimulate interest in the branch. The local members present at the meeting were: Messrs Dennison, sen. and jun., Plunket, Perry, Saunders, B. Paton, A. McDonald, Skinner, J. Duncan, sen. and jun., White, Hay, Willett, Cuthbertson, and Hurst.
