Hooper and got by Jack Potts —Nanette, by Author Dillon—Llama, by Lord Chancellor—Little Princess, by Prince Imperial. Knave of Diamonds is a brother to Radical, who has a reputation beyond h Blue b Hodzon soon redeemed his reputation by winning the Intermediate Handicap. His poor display on the first day sent him out of favour, but the best has not yet been seen of him. At Invercargill he trotted with clockwork action, and although he had a pacer racing on his wheel never put a foot wrong. The handicapping system in trotting has given general satisfaction, and the close and interesting finishes provided are mainly due to its operation. Classic races, however, cannot always be judged on assessment (says the Press), and an interesting study for followers of form may be found in the classics run at Addington In tile Metropolitan Stakes, for four-vear-olds, 10 horses were on scratch, and in a maiden race this would have been the correct mark for all but Bel Hamed, who would have had to concede 156 yards start. Netherby and Plunder Bar, on 12 yards behind, would both have been oil 24 yards in a maiden race, and of those on’24 yards the handicaps in a maiden race would have been as follows:—Cameronian and Leonin 60 yards behind, Bonny h ßridge and Caledonian Girl 72, Loyal ’ Nurse and Native Scott 120, Scottish Emperor 180, Paul Collette 204, and Imperial Lady 240. In the Stewards’ Free-for-All the handicapping system would have operated as follows:—Mervyn Derby, Lady Scott, Will Cary scr, Manian, Millisle 12vds bhd, Jimmy Drusus, Rangefinder 24, Mohican 36 Douglas McElwyn 48, and Margin and Royal Worthy 60. The correct assessments for horses who were engaged in the August Pacing Free-for-All are as follows:— Dusky Sound. Integrity. Loyal Friend, and Parrish Lad scr. Bronze Eagle, Countless, Indian Clipper, Shadow Maid 12yds bhd Pacing Power. Joan Conquest 24, Fine Art, Haughty, and Ronald Logan 36, and Gold Bar 48.
