ARGENTINE CABINET

EXTREME NATIONALIST RESIGNS TRIUMPH FOR LIBERAL IDEAS (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 26. An official communique announced the acceptance of the resignation of Dr Alberto Bajdrich, Minister of Justice and Public Instruction. Dr Baldrich was the outstanding surviving member of the extreme Nationalist wing of the Argentine Cabinet, says the Buenos Aires correspondent of the New York Times. During his tenure many Jewish teachers were dismissed from Argentine schools, and a great many extremely Nationalist measures were adopted. His departure is generally regarded as another step towards the triumph of more liberal ideas. A New York message reports that a mass rally which began in Buenos Aires last night as a tribute to the liberation of Paris was later converted into a pro-democratic political demonstration, which mounted police twice broke up, reports the Buenos' Aires correspondent of the New York Herald Tribune.

General Ramirez, who has not made a public appearance since his withdrawal from the Presidency in favour of General Farrell last February, watched the rally from the balcony of his home. He was cheered by the crowd as a tribute to his decision to break off diplomatic relations with the Axis a month prior to his forced retirement. At the crowd’s insistence, General Ramirez participated in the demonstration.
