SHOCKING DAMAGE
FLYING BOMB ATTACKS HEAVY CASUALTIES CAUSED (Rec. 7 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 25. During a tour of the bombed districts in the London area with the Minister of Reconstruction. Lord Woolton to-day, the Minister of Health. Mr H. U. Willink, stated that some flying bombs in the past few days had caused heavy casualties as well as shocking damage to property. “We must expect these dangers to continue for some time,” he added. “Cornered beasts are vicious.” Recalling Mr Churchill’s warning about the possibility of other forms of attack, Mr Willink advised mothers and children still in the London area to leave under the official evacuation scheme. The famous Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital, commonly known as Moorfields. was damaged in a recent flying-bomb attack. Seven patients were killed, and two of the injured died later. Nine members of the nursing staff were injured. Many of about 70 patients were blind and helpless. Fire which broke out was brought under'control.
