SOUTH-WESTERN FRANCE

ENEMY RESISTANCE CEASES (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 26. The French authorities at Hendaye reported that 10,000 encircled Germans are being cut to pieces by French and American troops in the Belin region, 30 miles south of Bordeaux. Later Reuter’s Irun correspondent stated that the encircled Germans had surrendered, thus ending all organised German resistance in South-western France. The shipping situation on the Riviera front is so good that the first shipload of food for French civilians is expected to be unloaded almost a month before the estimated date, writes a correspondent with the Seventh Army. It will have sufficient flour to feed 1,000,000 people in 10 days at the rate of 200 grammes a day, against the present French ratio of 125 grammes.
