EXPLOITS IN ITALY

NEW ZEALAND DIVISION WIDE PUBLICITY IN AMERICA (Special) WELLINGTON. Aug. 26. Prominence was given to the part played by the New Zealanders in - the Eighth Army’s advance on Florence by the United States press and radio network, states a letter under date of August 15, received from Mr C. "A Berendsen. the New Zealand Minister in Washington, by Mr A. D. Mclntosh, Secretary of’External Affairs. In his letter Mr Berendsen included extracts from the New York Times, the Washington Evening Star, and the Washington Post, dealing . with the activities of the New Zealand Division. “This is by no means the first occasion since Cassino,” stated Mr Berendsen, “that the New Zealand Division has been singled out for special mention in the stories appearing in the American press. It would, in fact, be no exaggeration to say that there is no division associated with the Eighth, or any other Allied army which has received more consistent publicity over here during the past four years, and with the exploits of which the average American reader or listener is more familiar.” At the time of the taking of the Treasury and Nissan Islands in the Pacific, special reports recording the exploits of the New Zealand forces in this theatre of operations also appeared in American publications.
