who has been posted missing on air operations. He is a son of Mr Geo. T. B6thgate, Outriim, and is' aged 23. Flying Officer Bathgate was educated at the Outram and Otago Boys’ High Schools. He joined the Air Force in October, 1940, and received his training at aerodromes in New Zealand. He arrived in England in • June, 1941, and was posted to heavy bombers, training in Wellington bombers. He commenced operational flights in September, 1941, and was sent to Malta for three months and then on to the Middle East for five months! He returned to Malta for three weeks in June, 1942, where he finished his 37 operational flights. He was then posted to an experimental unit in England and then to Ferry Command, ferrying Liberators to Cairo. Next he was posted to Transport Command, and then back to Bomber Command being attached to a special duty squadron. He was married to Miss Valentia Dorothy Valless, elder daughter- of Mr and Mrs Valless, Tredegar, Monmouthshire, South Wales, in October, 1942.

was a brother of Flying Officer J. R. G. Bathgate. He commenced his training in the Army in August, 1941, being posted to the 2nd Battalion ~of the Scottish Regiment. He left New Zealand in May, 1943, and was killed in action in Italy on November 28 last. He was educated a 1 the Outram School and the Otago Boys’ K#(:h School. After he left school he took up farming with his father.
