OPENING OF SESSION SCHOOL RESUMPTION DATES In order to enable students to work in essential seasonal industries, most of the faculties at the university colleges have postponed the opening date for the 1944. session until the end of March. Exceptions are the Medical, Dental, and Home Science Schools at the University of Otago, which will open at the end of February. Mr H. Chapman, registrar of the University of Otago, said yesterday that the three schools mentioned, with the exception of first-year students in each case, would commence the session on Monday, February 28. First-year massage students would'also commence on that date. The session for all other faculties, including the School of Mines and first-year: medical, dental, and home science students, would commence on Monday, March 27. . The autumn term for all faculties at the University of Otago will end on May 13. The winter term for all faculties, except for professional medicine and dentistry, will commence on May 22. Professional medicine and dentistry students will commence their winter term on June 6. The winter term for ail faculties will end on August 19, and the spring term will commence on September 4. Examinations at the end of the session will be held on approximately the same dates as in 1943. New Training College Scheme Students at the Dunedin Training College will resume classes for 1944 on Wednesday, February 2. In addition to the usual Division A students at the college, there will be a number of physical education specialists as well as students attending the special home science courses. Students will be coming from all parts of New Zealand for specialised. training in these two branches, which are exclusive to Dunedin. The college roll will total approximately 340, of whom about 190 are first-year students. The Education Department’s policy of concentrating special classes in one centre will mean that graduates from the four university colleges who wish to train as teachers will have to study at the Auckland Training, College. Other special courses, such as the physical education and home science classes in Dunedin, and the speech and hearing defect specialists’ course in Christchurch, will be exclusive to the centres mentioned. ’ \ \ -

Secondary Schools ; . The Otago High Schools’ Board advises that the Otago Boys’ High! School, King’s High .School, and the Otago Girls’ High School will reopen for the enrolment of new pupils on Monday, February 7. Last year’s., pupils returning for 1944 are required tp be in attendance on Tuesday, February 8. John McGlashan College will open on Tuesday, February 8, Columba College on Wednesday, February 2, and St. Hilda’s College on Wednesday, February 9. Special arrangements have been made for the admission of boarders, in most cases a day before the opening of the. school. The King Edward Technical College will open for day classes on Monday; February 7. and for evening classes on March 6. The special commercial section for dav pupils will recommence on Wednesday. February 9. Day pupils will enrol on Thursday and Friday. February 3 and 4. and evening pupils on March 1. 2. and 3. ■ , .
