Valedictory
The Hampden Hall was well filled on Tuesday night for a public farewell to the Rev. A. W. C. Stace and Mrs Stace. who are leaving for Riverton early next week. The Mayor of Hampden (Mr W. A. Murcott), who presided, presented the guests with a wallet of notes from the Deople of Hampden and the surrounding districts as a token of the affectionate appreciation of the whole community. An enjoyable programme of vocal and elocutionary items was followed by eulogistic speeches by Mr F. D. -Thomson (St. Stephen’s vestry), the Rev. A. Murdoch (Presbyterian Church), Mr Dungey (School Committee), Mr F. J. Hampton (Hampden R.S.A. and Home Guard), Mr W T Ford (Hampden Beautifying Society and Rifle Club), Mr G. Hallett (Herbert parishioners), and Archdeacon J. D. Russell (St. Luke’s, Oamaru). Mr Stace warmly thanked the people for their co-operation with him and Mrs Stace during the past. 13 years, and for the very appreciative words spoken that evening, and the generous gift. Supper was served by the ladies ot me congregation.
