NEW PARLIAMENT

THE FIRST SESSION OPENING ON FERBUARY 22 (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 24. The Acting-Prime Minister, Mr D. G. Sullivan, announced to-day that Parliament will assemble on February 22. As this is a new Parliament, it will be formally opened by a commission of Legislative Councillors appointed by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall. The House of Representatives will then proceed with the election of a Speaker, to which office Mr F. W. Schramm has already been nominated. It is expected that a caucus of the Government Party will be held shortly after the return of the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, and his colleagues from Australia.
