IN RAID OVER BURMA
EXPERIENCES OF NEW ZEALANDER (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) LONDON, Feb. 1
The Air Ministry News Service states that Pilot Officer Aurisch, of Christchurch, recently participated, m a raid over Akyab, Burma, when “Millionaires’ Corner” was shot up by cannon-firing fighters. Pilot Officer Aurisch said in an interview that “ we pumped a lot of shells into factories before we arrived over ‘ Millionaires’ Corner,’ where there were two houses, apparently used by the Japanese as ammunition dumps, because they blew up in a big way after we got in a number of strikes. Returning, we were rather annoyed by machine-gun posts near Yegyanbyin. We went in low and gave them a number of bursts, resulting in one post being thrown into a panic, all its crew jumping into the river. We found two more posts on the jetty and put them out of action. We then returned home for lunch.”
