LAWN TENNIS

EASTER TOURNAMENT ABANDONED A meeting of the committee of the Otago Lawn Tennis Association was held on Wednesday night, when there were present Messrs E. C. S. Falconer (in the chair), W. Sherriff, R. Phillipps, A. McMillan, L. Facer, and E. H. Ruhen. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association wrote acknowledging receipt of a letter regarding the proposal to extend the association’s coaching scheme, and stating that it would favourably consider granting a further subsidy. The committee was asked to supply further particulars, and the secretary was instructed accordingly. It was resolved to abandon the Easter tournament this season owing to the lateness of Easter and the scarcity of lawn tennis balls. It was resolved to write to the Southland, North Otago, and South Canterbury Associations to ascertain their views regarding the holding of the quadrangular tournament this year, and pointing out that it would be necessary for each association to provide the quota of tennis balls. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr A. McMillan for his donation of £3 3s towards the McMillan Cup tournament.
