NORMAL ENTRIES FORWARD VALUES GENERALLY MAINTAINED At the weekly stock market at Burnside yesterday there were normal entries ot most classes of stock, and the sale was a fairly firm one throughout. Fat cattle were forward in larger numbers, and for prime classes late rates_ were maintained, but there was an easing in values for medium and ordinary types Fat ewes were equal in value to last week's rates, while wethers were firmer Baconers and porkers met with keen competition at improved prices. Fat Cattle. The entry in this section comprised 355 head, as compared with 300 a week ago. The quality was good In a limited number of pens, the bulk of the yarding comprising medium to ordinary descriptions, with a number of unfinished sorts unsuitable for the fat pens. The market in the earlier stages was somewhat easier than that of a week ago, this being more noticeable in the secondary and ordinary classes. These could be quoted £1 lower than last week’s values. As the market progressed, prime beef improved in value, and at the finish of the sale prices were very firm to a shade better than those ruling last week. Heifers also met with good competition, but cows were decidedly easier in price. Included in the entry was a pen of extra choice bullocks from Messrs D. and W. John-

Fat Sheep.— The yarding of fat sheep was barely as large as the previous week s. and the demand at the beginning of the sale was fairly keen, especially for wethers, the number penned being abou.. 2000 These, on the whole, were best quality, and in larger numbers than has been yarded for some time. Gooo wethers were firm to a shade better in price than those ruling last week. Ewes, which comprised the bulk of the yarding, included a number of pens of choice quality and met with good competition. Towards the finish of the sale, however, there was an easing in all classes, this to a great extent being due to the inclemency of the weather, buyers being in a hurry to get away. Included in the entry were two trucks of choice wethers from Messrs Pearce Bros., of Patearoa, these making up to 46s and averaging 425. Quotations: Prime heavy-weight wethers, to 465; prime, 37s 6d to 39s 6d; medium, 30s 6d to 33s 6d; light. 27s to 28s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes, to 345; prime. 26s 6d to 28s 6d; medium. 22s 6d to 245; light, 15s to 16s 6d. Pigs.—The porker entry was somewhat larger than last week’s, and excellent prices were again obtained for all descriptions. these showing an improvement on last -week's. There was a medium entry in the bacon section, and competition was again keen, over-fat being the only class not attracting keen attention. Prices generally could be quoted firm in the vendor's favour. Quotations: Best baconers, to £6 ss; medium, £4 5s to £4 16s; light, from £3 15s; best porkers, £3 15s to £4 2s; medium, £3 7s to £3 13s; light, £2 11s to £2 16s, The entry of store pigs -was not a large one, and prices were firm. Best weaners realised from 18s to 225; medium. 16s to 17s 6d; slips. 25s to 28s; and store, 32s to 40s. Store Cattle.—There was again a small entry of store cattle, and there were only a few pens of medium quality and also a small number of cows suitable for graziers’ requirements. Anything showing quality met with a good demand. One pen of three-year-old steers made to £9 4s, while two to two-and-a-half-year-old steers made from £7 7s 6d to £8 ss. Vealers,—The entry -was larger than that for the previous market, and the quality was fairly good. A good pen of runners was included in the entry, these making up to £B. Generally, the market was easier by 10s a head on the prices ruling last week. Runners made up to £B, good suckers £4 Is to £5 10s, and medium £3 to £3 12s 6d. Dairy Cows.—The entry of approximately 35 head included only a few good cows. There was little animation in the sale, and generally an easing in prices Values were maintained, however, for anything outstanding. The top price was £lO, which was paid for a good type of cow, while generally medium to good could be quoted from £6 15s to £9. Soring calvers and poorer sorts sold from £4.
