SCHOOL FOOTBALL ST. KEVIN'S DEFEATS WAITAKI In a match played at Recicastle in very cold weather yesterday afternoon, St. Kevin’s College beat* Waitaki Boys’ High School by 9 points to 8. It was a fine exhibition of the game. In the first spell Waitaki had the better of the play and scored two tries, the scorers being Dunne and Clarke. McGhie conceited the second try. Two goals from penalties were kicked by Bonisch for St. Kevin’s, making the half-time score: Waitaki 8, St, Kevin’s 6. Play was more even in the second spell, both sides throwing the ball about in good style. Eventually McKone scored the deciding try for St. Kevin s. making the final score; St. Kevin’s 9 points, Waitaki 8 points. Mr L. V. OAMARU SOUTH SCHOOL A letter from the Otago Education Board was received at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru South School Committee. asking the committee to express an opinion on the question of the children themselves cleaning the schools, because of the difficulty in obtaining the services of cleaners. The letter stated that the board had not reached a decision in the matter. The committee unanimously rejected the suggestion. CYCLING The Oamaru Amateur Cycling Club’s Road Race on Saturday will be from Oamaru to Hilderthorpe and return, a distance of 16 miles, starting from Orana Park at 2.15 p.m. Handicaps have been declared by Mr A. Anderson was in the chair at the annual meeting of the AiredaleRosebery Ladies’ Guild and PAV.M.U. The guild report was submitted by Mrs IT E. Buiek (president), the balance sheet by Mrs G. Niell (secretary), the P.W.M.U. report by Miss M. Buick (president) and the balance sheet by Miss L. Willetts (treasurer) The following officers were elected President. Mrs W. Ballantyne; vice-presi-dent. Mrs H. E. Buick; guild secretary and treasurer, Mrs G. Niell. P.W.M.U. secretary, Miss M. Buick; treasurer and M.M.B.L. convener, Miss L. Willetts. CONCERT AT MILITARY CAMP The concert this week at a military camp was given by the Haereniai Club, and again bright entertainment was provided. the soldiers thoroughly enjoying (he programme. Cr A. Wilson, who reoresented the Mayor, acted as chairman, and songs were contributed by Mrs D. Watson. Misses Kirkness and Beattie. Messrs E. Kerr, C. Campbell and E. Monteath; vocal duet. Miss Beattie and Mi E Monteatb: piano-accordion duet, Misses Pile and Tait; violin solos. Mr R. J. Meldrum: national dancing. Misses Meikle and A. Hurndell. The accompaniments were played by Mrs E, Monteatb and Miss A. Blair, and for the dancing by Piper J. Campbell. Lieutenant H. J. S. Grater suitably thanked the performers.

R.S.A. WOMEN’S SECTION OUTLINE OF ACTIVITIES The women's section of the Oamaru R.S.A.. which was recently formed in Oamaru,. has now a membership o£ 45. Its chief object is to bring together returned soldiers' wives and families and the next-of-kin of men and women serving overseas. Mothers, wives, sisters, and guardians arc eligible for membership. A meeting of the section was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs H. C. Lightwood (president) being in the chair. Hospital visiting, it was stated, would be one of tiic duties to bo undertaken, and also the cleaning ot wool lor home-spinning, under the supervision of the Townswomen's Guild. The August meeting should be interesting, as there will bo a display of photographs, gifts, and souvenirs from overseas. It is the intention of the committee to arrange a gathering of next-of-kin of service men and prisoners of war every three, months. Already a substantial amount of money has been raised for patriotic purposes. MANCHESTER UNITY The half-yearly meeting ot the Loyal Star of the North Lodge was hold on Monday night, there being present members of the Past Grands’ Lodge and Loyal Oamaru Lodge, Deputy District Grand Master Bro. Kay, assisted by P.G.’s and members of the Loyal Oamaru Lodge, conducted the installation of the officers for the ensuing term as follows;—-N.G., Sis. E. Sherwin; V.G., Sis. K. Shirkey; I.P.N.H , Sis. H. Whitham; E.S.. Sis. E. Addison; W„ Sis. E. Kidd; and G. Sis. M. Stevenson,
