Summer fishermen state that mammals similar to the beaked whale which came ashore recently have been frequently seen on the deep sea fishing grounds about seven miles off the coast. They also state that in this area sharks of enormous size have frequently been caught. Some, over 20 feet in length, got away with all the tackle at times, and their bulk was such that occasionally the safety of the fishing launches was threatened. They expressed the opinion that few people realise that such fishing exists relatively so close to Sumner.
