ADDINGTON MARKET

FAT SHEEP VALUES IMPROVE (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. At the Addington market to-day there were smaller entries, with some recovery in values, mainly in primest cattle and fat sheep. There was a small entry of store sheep. Lamb prices were fully firm as compared with those of a week ago. Best wether lambs made to 18s sd; average sorts, to 15s 6d; and others to 13s 6d. Ewe lambs realised up to 26s 6d. Two-tooth ewes brought up to 30s, and older sheep up to 225. Shipped ewes sold from 17s to 18s Id; best local to 16s 6d, and culls down to 7s.

There was a smaller entry of fat sheep. Prices for prime young ewes were better by fully a shilling a head, and some lines made values exceeding 265, but although some wethers realised over 345, any increase on this schedule was not quotable. Best wethers brought up to 34s 6d; prime, to 31s 9d, and others from 26s to 28s 3d. Extra prime ewes realised from 22s 6d to 275, and good from 19s to 225. Export ewes made from 12s 6d to 16s. The fat cattle market was good, the entries being the smallest for some time. Prices for prime ox beef improved by from 25s to 30s a head for a small proportion of the penning, but for other classes there was little appreciation. Best beef made about 42s 6d per 1001 b, medium to 38s, ordinary to 355, and rough down to 225. Best steers made from £l6 to £l9 2s 6d; medium, £l3 to £ls 10s; and others £lO 10s to £l2 10s. Best heifers sold from £ll 10s to £l3 17s Gd, and others from £6 5s to £9 10s. Good cows made up to £9 10s; exports, £l3 7s; and others £5 to £7 ss.

In the fat pig section there was a large entry of porkers, and at the beginning of the sale values advanced on those of a week ago, but late arrivals covered values. Choppers were in heavy supply. The bacon entry was the smallest of the season. Best porkers made from £2 12s 6d to £3 2s 6d, and others from 30s to 48s 6d; average price per lb, 6d to 7£d. Best baconers made £4 5s 6d to £4 13s 6d; and others £3 7s 6d to £4 4s 6d; average price per lb, 63d to 7|d.
