TWO CAPTAINS RESIGN

WELL-KNOWN MARINERS v "it is announced that Captain J. Rankine and Captain A. S. Dalgleish, two well-known senior masters of the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd., have resigned from the company’s service for private. reasons. Captain Rankine was appointed master; of the Rosamond in 1916, since when he has commanded many of the company’s vessels. Captain Dalgleish joined the Union Company in 1913, and served as third and second officer of various vessels until appointed tutor on the company’s training ship Aparima in 1916. While the vessel was in the United Kingdom in 1917, he was granted leave to join the Royal Navy, as lieutenant, R.N.R., and returned to the company’s employ in 1919, when he was appointed chief officer of the Katoa. He was appointed to his first command, the Kaituna. in 1925. He relinquished command of the Waiana a few weeks ago.
