RESTAURANT MEALS
CHARGES IN ENGLAND MAXIMUM ANNOUNCED * RUGBY, May 12. A maximum basic charge of 5s for a meal in public restaurants with a' maximum >of three courses per meal and the-prohibition of fish, game, anci poultry on certain days of the week, are the main provisions of an order, to become operative on June 1. This was announced by the Minister for Food, Lord Woolton, in the House of Lords. The consumption of food in catering establishments, said Lord Woolton. will be prohibited between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. 'in the provinces, and oetween midnight and 5 a.m. in the metropolitan police area, except for hotel residents and catering establishments licensed for service to night workers and travellers. The Minister intends to impose restrictions bn the price of whisky, gin, and beer served in restaurants, and it is probable that the house charge will be fixed at not more than 7s 6d, and for dancing and cabarets at not more than 2s 6d. The service charge will probably be 10 per cent. Thus the total cost for a meal, dancing, cabaret, and house charge and cover charge should not exceed 16s 6d.
