FORESTRY COMPANIES
THE . NEW ZEALAND UNITS FINE WORK IN ENGLAND (N.Z.FA. Special) ; (Rec. 7 p,m.) ." LONDON, May 12. Brigadier -R. S. Park, officer commanding the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the United Kingdom, has .completed an Inspection of the New Zealand forestry companies in different parts of England. He was informed that their initiative in adapting New Zealand methods to English conditions had been specially commented on by British army officers. They regarded the New Zealanders as among the finest hardwood workers in England to-day. Their April output of sawn timber was 91,000 cubic feet, while they produced 25,000 cubic feet in the first week in May. Sappers C. H. Thompson, A. B. Crawford, and T. H; Illingworth recently stayed with a Canadian forestry unit observing their methods. All the New Zealand companies will shortly undergo their annual period of military training, including anti-invasion exercises, when they will combine with field units and Home Guards. There is no doubt that these forestry men are making a valuable contribution to the war effort.
