GAS WARFARE

NAZIS' NEW CHEMICAL WEAPON REPORTS FROM GERMAN FRONTIER (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 11. The British United Press yesterday circulated from the German frontier a report that Germany almost certainly possesses a new chemical weapon, and it is true that the German Army is being issued with a new type of gas mask which is a longer model than the old and has a new filter. Reports from two sources say the new gas attacks the nervous system, producing a kind of mental paralysis and robbing the victims of their power of decision for hours.

There is evidence, adds the British United Press, of a German gas concentration at Cingen, where there were recently 320 railway tank wagons filled with liquid which was not petrol. Swiss railwaymen reported that the wagons had a skull and crossbones painted on them. The wagons are distributed at various sidings, and . are camouflaged to resemble huts.
