WOMAN JURORS BILL

RE-INTRODUCTION LATER (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON, May 8, . After being read a second time the Woman Jurors Bill was removed from the Order Paper of the House of Representatives to-day, the Speaker ruling that it could not proceed, as one clause involved an appropriation.,, The Bill will be reintroduced later as a Government measure. Mrs M. M. Dreaver (Govt., Waitemata), who introduced the Bill, said that the proposal had been consistently advocated for years by the. National Council, of Women-. By arrangement, Mrs Dreaver was;' permitted' to ‘the second .reading'tb .dllbw. : ,ber' :'to explain the reason for tbb'Biil.' tr’"' The Attorney-general (Mr H.G. R. Mason) said the Bill had the acceptance of the Government, which proposed to notify the Speaker that it would take up the Bill and facilitate its passage. Mr Mason submitted that no appropriation was involved. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) said the time to raise the question was when the Speaker gave his ruling that an appropriation was involved. - The only way to bring the Bill on was by Governor-General’s Message.
