Acceptances for the Oamaru meeting are due on Monday. The Arauslo gelding Whackle has been purchased by Mr M. J. Moodabe and taken over by H. Dulieu.

Waitoru will carry southern support in his race at Ashburton. Apparently Waitoru has shown some attractive work since his last race.

Merry Simon may start favourite for the Longbeach Hurdles, but he is giving close on 2st to Knight Commander, who won the Oamaru Cup last season. At Avondale win and place betting will be operated, and the starting times are as follows: 11.20, 12.10, 12.55, 1.40, 2.20, 3.5, 3.50, 4.40.

Chandelier has not shown up in hia recent races, but if back to the. form displayed in the spring he should shape well at Ashburton. At the New Zealand Cup meeting he was second to Atreu.s over seven furlongs in Imln 25 3-ssec, ana on the final day was second again in Imin 24 4-ssec.

Mauretania holds two engagements at Ashburton, and has been showing fairly consistent form. In her last start she was third with 8.10 to Hurry Girl 8.7 and Hinepo 7.12 over six furlongs at Timaru in Imin 13 l-ssec. In the Eiflelton Handicap she meets Hurry Girl on 101 b better terms.

Novice hurdlers are fairly well represented in the Longbeach Hurdles, and this naturally is in favour of such experienced horses as Merry Simon and Donadea. Knight Commander was shaping promisingly over hurdles in the early part of the season, and he may, prove next best to the two top-weights.

Hinepo has been reeling off fast gallops on the track, and that fact, in addition to previous form, will bring her into favour for the Eiffelton Handicap. She scored her first win at the Banks Peninsula meeting on March 7 and followed this by beating Willow Wood at Westport. She then ran second to All Night in the Papanui Handicap with 8.1, with Stormy Petrel 7.9 third, and in her last start finished second to Hurry Girl at Timaru, when Mauretania, Stormy Petrel, Heroic Star, Willow Wood, and Legis were unplaced.

Beau Ciel has been working well, bui apparently is not too reliable in a race. His best form this season is a second at Levin to Winsome Lu over a mile and aquarter. He has started 16 times, so that plenty of opportunity has been provided. As a three-year-old. when racing as a colt last season, Beau Ciel won nine times and was three times second in 22 starts. Perhaps he got a bit tired of things, and hence his form this season. Beau Ciel scored his last win at Otaki with 7.6, when he beat Gladynev 8.9, The Monarch 7.4, and Sir Crusoe 8.11 over 10 furlongs in 2min 8 l-ssec.

After suffering what appears to have been an unlucky defeat in the Great Faster Handicap, Lord Nuffield won at Timaru, when Leighnor had his chance spout througn interference. At Oamaru Lord Nuffield has been sent up to 9.13, and meets Scottish Dale on 51b worse terms than when she beat him in the Great Easter Handicap, and at the scale of weights the top-weight has received rather more than his full share. Scottish Dale is a rising four-year-old, and more likely to improve than the top-weight, and hence reads well treated. Don't Forget, who won the Timaru Cup from end to end and is top-weight in the Ashburton Handicap, has had three wins, two seconds, and two thirds in 17 starts this season. His first win was' in the Teschemaker Handicap with 8.1, beating The Raker 7.11 by a length and a-half, with Cherokee 7.4 three lengths away. In 2min Csec. A repetition of that form would beat The Raker and Cherokee again. His next win was at Oamaru with 8.2, when The Raker 8.9 and Eulogist 7.9 were unplaced on a slow track. Then came his win in the Timaru Cup. There is no doubt about Don’t Forget’s ability to gallop, but at times he has failed so badly that a doubt exists about his courage.
