The area quartermaster,'.-.Lieutenant J. Beaumont, has .receivetjl that his sorr, Sergeant J. W. B«aSmont, who is serving with theNewlZfealSnd forces overseas, has been promoted to the rank of second-lieutenant. Mr Bruce Roy, of Baiclutha, who was recently promoted to the rank of sub-lieutenant in the Royal New Zealand Navy, will arrive in Dunedin from the north this afternoon to spend a few days’ leave with his brother, Mr A. Roy, Chingford, North-East Valley. Sub-lieutenant Roy trained for his commission at Flinders Naval Depot, Australia, where he passed at the age of 20. ■ ‘ Passengers for the.north by air yesterday were Mr A. P. Oran, Master R. Murray. Mr W. L. Aynsley, Mr Simister, and Mr H. W. Allison for Christchurch, Commissioner J. Evan Smith for Wellington, Mrs D. T. Miller and Miss B. Miller for Palmerston North. Passengers who arrived by the afternoon plane were Dr Phyllis Moir from Auckland, Dr W. Gilmour, Dr S. G. Aitken, and Mr R. P. Tuckey from Wellington, Miss N. Price. Master R. Oliver, Second-lieutenant R. Baker, Mr L. F. Broad, Dr J. W. Bridgman, and Mr D. Langley from Christchurch.
